About Us

Well this is me, the creator of Its A Link. It all started off as a purely mercenary way of trying to get a little extra cash. However  it quickly became apparent that I was never going to be rich overnight, so in order to keep my interest in its development and others interest in visiting, I've put a lot of stuff on this site that I think is useful. Like the bunch of search engines etc.

Anyhow, enough about the site, more about its creator, ME!

Curriculum Vitae

Here's a brief resume:

Dr Daniel Morris (BSc, PhD)

Born 9th February 1969

Currently I'm a Principal Software Engineer with Philips Semiconductors in Southampton UK.

I am the project leader for the software that makes the interactive services possible on digital terrestrial televisions. It is called MHEG and is the software that is invoked on your digital terrestrial television when you "press the red button". Philips are are very much involved in the further development of the next generation of digital/hybrid TVs from the silicon chips upwards. So clearly there are a lot of real time/embedded systems and software solutions that we have to continue to develop and market.

Previously I was a Senior Software Engineer for BAE Systems working on a Real Time Simulator for an underwater weapon system. Can't say to much about that though...all very hush hush.

Before that I was working at UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) working on a 1 dimensional cloud model to simulate the mixed phased and ice replication mechanisms that occur in clouds. That research gained me a PhD, and a parmeterization of the model ended up in the Meteorological Offices General Circulation Model, used to predict climate change and day to day weather.

Interests

Like any professional my time is precious and limited so I try to do as many things that interest me as possible.  So what do I do?

I used to dance, Salsa, Merengue and Latin American & Argentinian Tango, now very rarely, but it's like riding a bike, you don't forget once you've learn't.

If I didn't live in Britain, I'd be in Australia scuba diving, the Great Barrier Reef is fantastic for it. I hope to be emigrating in the coming year.

I'm quite interested in astronomy and have purchased a Meade ETX 125 EC telescope. The first time you see Saturn with your own eye, you will never forget. Thought I might try some astrophotography, but getting clear non-light polluted skies in the south of England, makes this very hard.

I also live my girlfriend Fiona, a music teacher at one of the local schools.

Thanks for you time and for browsing the site.
